The village is typically French, very quiet except for the buzz of a tractor here and there (especially at harvest time) and the rumble of an occasional train – usually on a Thursday!

Although there isn’t a village store any more there is a bread dispenser in the village square and other food deliveries on different days. The post office is now housed in The Mairie.

Further Afield

The town of Loudun is only ten minutes’ drive away with two big supermarkets and numerous independent food shops along with all the usual things like pharmacies, doctor’s surgery and hospital should you need them.

The local roads are very quiet which make it ideal for walking and cycling. Not too far away there is a riding school but, if rural life gets too much, there is lots to do in the surrounding countryside.

There is a wealth of chateaux to visit and wonderful restaurants within easy reach, unfortunately not in the village itself.

An hours’ drive north will take you to the town of Saumur which has a busy centre with pavement cafes and riverside walks, a market on certain days and the inevitable chateau. Also within an hours’ drive is the wonderful zoo at Doue la Fontaine(http://www.bioparc-zoo.fr “Bioparc Zoo”). The animals are in natural surroundings and well worth visiting. If something more lively is to your liking there is Futuroscope near Poitiers (http://www.futuroscope.com “Futurescope”) an hour away to the south. I could go on and on but must mention the walled town of Richelieu, built in the 17th century and Chinon which has a wonderful brocante every third Sunday of the month and wine tasting caves where the excellent Chinon wines can be sampled and purchased. Finally various Troglodyte caves many of which are open to the public are well worth a visit.

There are many wine trails to follow where you can sample wines at the vineyards of their source.

There is a very well-informed tourist office in Loudun which has all the up to date information of what’s going on in the area.
